Glass Pool Fencing Questions
Here is a list of most frequent questions about glass fencing. Please feel free to contact us by phone, email or fax if you require any other information. Your business is important to us and we’ll be glad to answer any questions you may have.
Why glass fencing?

See our work – Glass Fence Photos.

Glass pool fencing provides a great alternative to steel tubular pool fencing. Having a glass fence in front of the pool makes the backyard look larger and adds a lot of style to the whole of pool area. Glass pool fence

  • looks great
  • adds value and style to your property
  • it lets you see!
  • often, it makes your backyard look “bigger”.
How safe is the glass?
It is strong! We use 8-12mm Toughened Safety Glass. The glass is made to Australian Standards AS2208. The glass is strong enough to withstand physical impact and if broken the fractures of glass are small enough to minimise the likelihood of injury. Please see Glass Fence Safety page for more information.
Is it hard to clean?
Glass fence cleaning is the same as cleaning any other glass. Since there will be many splashes of water on the fence, we use and recommend Enduroshield – a special glass treatment that repels water and therefore reduces your cleaning efforts. We can treat the glass for you for a fee or you can purchase Enduroshield in your local plumbing store and apply it to the fence yourself. Please check www.enduroshield.com for more information.
How safe is the glass gate on the pool fence?
The glass gate conforms to the Australian Standards. The gate safety latch is positioned out of reach of young children on the “other side of the glass” in over 1500mm reach. All swimming pool gates open outwards, away from the pool area. Please see Glass Fence Safety page for more information.
Does the glass fence comply with Australian Standards?
Yes, our glass pool fencing design complies with the applicable Australian Standards AS2208 – Safety Glazing Materials in Buildings and AS1926.1 – Swimming Pool Safety. Please see Glass Fence Safety page for more information.
What about Local Council requirements?
Local Council requirements follow the Australian Standards, however it is a good idea to give them a call, to make sure there is nothing extra you need to do around your pool.
Who’s job is it to get Council approval?
If you got an approval for a pool, you automatically have an approval for a pool fence: you can’t have a swimming pool without a fence!
What height is the glass pool fence?
The glass panels that we use are 1200mm high and they are raised up to 100m from the ground surface. So, in normal circumstances the height of the fence will be within the 1200-1300mm range. Please see our “Pool Fence Safety” page for other requirements.
What is the size of glass panels?
Glass panels that we use for semi-frameless fencing are 1200mm high and come in the following widths: 100-1000mm in 100mm increments and from 1000 to 1500mm in 50mm increments. Frameless glass fencing panels are 1200mm high and range from 1000 to 1800mm in 100mm increments. We can also provide custom made glass panels to meet specific requirements.
Can the fence be attached to a timber deck?
The short answer is yes. However, we’ll need to examine your deck before we can give a final recommendation. If the deck is close to the ground, we can drill through the deck and concrete the posts in the ground. Otherwise, we’ll use special base plates on both sides of the deck to secure the posts.
Can the fence be attached to concrete or liquid limestone?
Yes, we’ll core-drill the concrete or liquid limestone and secure the posts in the holes with industry grade concrete/cement.
Can I combine normal and glass fence together?
Yes. Many people install a glass fence in the visible areas, such as in front of the windows and tubular steel fence (“normal” fence) in other areas, e.g., behind the house, where the only function of the fence is to provide security. We can install both the glass and the “normal” fence for you. Here are some examples.
What kind of fence posts do you use?
For semi-frameless, there are two different profiles of high-grade alloy posts – square and round. The posts are concreted into core drilled holes in the ground or attached to decking with special base plates. The posts have specially designed channels for glass and glazing. For frameless fencing we use anodised alloy or stainless steel square spigots.
What colours can I get my fence posts in?
You can have your semi-frameless glass fence posts in any colour you like. Our most popular colours, however, are Anotec Dark Grey, Precious Silver Pearl and Satin Black. We use and recommend Dulux Powder Coating colours.
What goes on top of fence posts?
After the glass is secured in the posts we attach flat aluminium caps on top of each post. However, there is an option to put a solar neon light on each post to give your pool area that extra style and special mood at night.
How do I get a quote for my pool fence?
There are five options:
+ Request a glass fence quote online
+ Call us on 0449 845 277
+ Send your fence measurements and requirements by fax (08) 9463 7807
+ Email to mailbag@safetyandstyle.com.au
+ Or use “contact form” on the Contact Us page.
I have other tradesmen working on site. When do I need to call you?
Normally we’d like to discuss your requirements (with you and other tradesmen) and book your fence as early as possible. This will allow us to coordinate the work in the appropriate order, e.g., installing the fence posts before you build a deck or doing the work after the paving or concreting is done and sealed.
How long does it take to install a fence?
We can normally provide you with a quote within a couple of days and install the fence within a week or two. The actual installation of the fence takes 1-2 days.
