Concrete TAXI

June 15, 2011 No comments yet

Occasionally we’re asked to do a concrete footing, usually for frameless glass fences. This time we tried Concrete TAXI and I was amazed by the service that we received. The truck arrived right on time and because concrete is mixed on site, there was no waste and they only charged us for what we used – in this case, only 0.4 cubic metre. It’s a bargain and a great service.

Guide to Standards – Pools and Spas

May 11, 2011 No comments yet

When you first start looking into Australian Standards and Pool Fencing Safety Requirements and Regulations, it may be seem a bit confusing. It also doesn’t help that you have to pay to get a copy of an applicable standard – e.g., AS 1926.1-2007 from SAI Global. There is, however, a new document called “Guide to Standards – Pools and Spas” that can be used as a starting point (also released by SAI Global).

We’ve been in touch with the Standards and Regulation Branch of
Building Commission (Department of Commerce WA) and we’re going to produce an overview of the currently applicable standard in Western Australia. It’s not all that straight forward.

The “Rules for pools” brochure, produced back in 2005, is still correct to date. You will notice it references the 1993 version of the Australian Standard AS1926.1 as the technical requirements for pool barriers. Even though there is a new 2007 version of this standard, it is not applicable in WA. Part 10 of the WA Building Regulations 1989, which regulate pools barriers in WA only, does not reference the new version of the standard. This is because the new standard when first published contained several errors and the Government was concerned about inconsistencies in the application of these within the industry.

So, whether you’re replacing a fence or installing one for a new swimming pool, it’s a good idea to check with your local council regarding what the swimming pool fence requirements are.

When we install a fence we normally make sure that it complies and even exceeds the most conservative requirements for a pool fence that we’re aware of. But it doesn’t hurt to check with a local authority, just in case they have some specific quirks.

Frameless Glass Fencing – Here is another one.

Glass Perimeter Fence

When there is a view why not use glass for a perimeter fence? Why block beautiful scenery with wooden, steel or brick fences while you can “extend your backyard” just by having glass as a border of the property.

Here is a job that we did not a long time ago for an ocean coast property in Mandurah. We replaced an old tubular fence with glass. The difference it made is just amazing.

We installed a fully frameless glass fence with 12mm safety glass and round stainless steel spigots. Because this is a very long fence, we used smaller panels (1200mm long) with slightly wider gaps between the panels so that the don’t create to much of a sail when it’s windy.

Here are some photos fro this job. I’ll post some more when the landscapers complete their work.

So, if you’re considering a glass perimeter fence, give us a call. We’ll do a perfect job with quality materials and install it on time.

Tinted Glass Fencing

April 26, 2011 2 comments

Every now and then we have inquiries about different glass options, such as

  • tinted glass fencing
  • matte glass fencing
  • coloured glass fencing (toned glass)

Is it available? The answer is yes. We’re always happy to quote on different glass options and get the glass that specifically suits each customer’s requirements. Such glass panels are locally made and are more expensive than the standard clear glass.
